In this video Wildlife Photographer Tom Mason shows you how for less than £500, you can get hold of a Professional wildlife photography setup! Combining a pro spec full frame camera and a fixed professional prime lens this kit will enable you to get started in your journey of wildlife photography and spend more time in the field making images, than worrying about having to buy expensive kit! Hey guys, So in this video I'm back out on Havergate and wanted to take a moment to share some thoughts on how you can get started in wildlife photography on a budget! As a photographer who started with little financial backing, I know the struggles of getting started when everything seems so expensive, however with good knowledge of the available options, I want to show you today how you really can have a fully capable setup without breaking the bank! I've picked up a Used Nikon D700 and 300mm f4 AFS to show you just how good older cameras still are! Now I know this gear because it was what I used when I first started out as a pro! The D700 was my camera for a good number of years and still to this day I SELL THE IMAGES shot on this camera! This was the camera that was in my hand when I made images that won me a highly commended in the National Geographic Por El Planeta prize and the 300mm f4, is a lens I have sworn by year for people getting started. Yes it doesn't zoom, but the optics, AF and Image quality are second to none! You might think by modern standards the lack of animal eye AF and tracking modes, the limited megapixels make the D700 irrelevant but I promise, this camera is still capable in 2025 at producing some truly remarkable images, you just have to learn how to use it! If your thinking about getting into wildlife photography on a budget, I'd recommend going used - Wex Photo Video have always been my choice for gear and with a 12 month warrantee on used kit, great prices and backed by a brand who care for the photographers they serve its a great place to shop. I got the D700 and 300mm f4 from them myself, with MY OWN MONEY to share whats possible on a budget.!
